e-SDS 2026: Der ultimative Umstellungs-Leitfaden für KMU

Are you prepared for the digital SDS requirements from 2026?

Avoid fines of up to €50,000 and unnecessary workload!

From May 2026, all new or updated Safety Data Sheets (SDS) must include the new hazard classes (e.g., ED, PBT/vPvB) according to Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/707. For Poison Centre Notifications (PCN), structured data via IUCLID is required — simple PDFs will no longer suffice. A QR code for digital access is strongly recommended (source: ECHA guidance).

From January 2027 (for substances) and May 2028 (for mixtures), these rules will apply to all existing SDS. Many SMEs underestimate the complexity: technical challenges with IUCLID, XML formatting, and ECHA uploads can lead to lost time, costly errors, and customer loss.

The tough reality for SMEs

  • Up to 20–50 hours per SDS for the transition

  • Need for expensive software or consultancy services

  • High risk of fines and complaints (up to €50,000 per violation under the German Chemicals Act, ChemG)
